What is an Example of a Plateau?

Known as "The Roof of the World," the Plateau of Tibet is the world’s highest and largest plateau. Its average altitude is about 15,000 feet above sea level. It occupies an area of over one million square miles. Located in Chinese province of Qinghai and the Tibet Autonomous Region, the plateau formed as a result of the collision of two massive tectonic plates about 55 million years ago. Today, the plateau is still being formed. The northern section of the plateau is one of the coldest places on earth.
