What is a Fjord?

What is an Example of a Fjord?

Sognefjord (pictured), located in southern Norway is the world's second longest fjord. Only Scoresby Sound in Greenland is longer. Sognefjord extends inland some 126 miles to the town of Skjolden. For most of its length, the fjord is about three miles wide. Cliffs on either side of the fjord rise to heights of nearly 3,000 feet.
