English Channel

What is a Channel?

The course taken by a body of water between two land masses.

What is an Example of a Channel?

The English Channel is part of the Atlantic Ocean; separating the United Kingdom from the continent of Europe. It is about 350 miles in length and 150 miles at its widest. The channel is relatively shallow, however, reaching an average depth of about 390 feet and a maximum depth of 580 feet. Because the English Channel connects the economies of northern Europe with the rest of the world, it is the world's busiest waterway.
